General Health Precautions For Sound Healing Treatments & Classes
Sound healing encourages personal rest, healing, and self-development, as well as a range of other positive health benefits to many individuals across the world, but if you have a severe, chronic or acute health issue, such as any of the conditions listed below, it is recommended that you either avoid attendance all together, or you consult with your GP, therapist, psychiatrist, or any other healthcare professional before attending a session or 1-2-1 with Laura.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pregnancy: Sound healing is not recommended if you are less than three months pregnant.
Epilepsy/Seizures: Generally it is not recommended you attend sound healing if you have epilepsy or experience seizures. However if these are managed well and you have a care plan, it may be ok. However, it’s crucial to consult with your healthcare provider or GP before participating.
Recent Surgery, Severe Injuries or Medical Procedure: such as bone fractures, wait until full recovery before attending sound healing.
Mental Health, Psychiatric Conditions: Whilst sound healing can be great for mild depression, anxiety, and mental health conditions, if you have severe anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis or are on medication, sound healing may not be right for you because of its ability to affect mental states and the effect of medication. Please discuss this with your psychiatrist or therapist.
Metal Implants: If you have metal implants, you may be more sensitive to the gong in sound baths and it may be best to wait until you are fully healed.
Recent Trauma or Post-Traumatic Stress: As classes may trigger memories and emotions, if you have experienced something traumatic recently, it is not advised you attend a sound healing session.
Recent Heart Surgery/ Pacemakers: Individuals who have a pace-maker fitted, or have recently undergone heart surgery should seek medical advice before participating.
Hearing Aids: Please remove them before the treatment/sound bath as some frequencies may cause hearing aids to buzz or whistle. You will still feel the vibrations and receive the benefits of them.
Asthma: Please bring your inhalers and consult with your GP.
Retinal Detachment & Glaucoma: Individuals with retinal detachment or glaucoma should seek medical advice before participating, as certain activities may increase intraocular pressure.
Please also note that sound healing is a form of energy healing (as sound is a form of energy in audible form), and this can induce reflective and meditative states, and therefore a change in energetic state which can lead to release on all levels, and healing in various forms. This may bring up old memories, strong emotions, past trauma, as well as a spectrum of positive ones. It's normal and natural to feel overcome after a session, fluey, achey, or a little more sensitive post-session, as this is all part of the healing journey and release / healing can manifest in a variety of ways.
