Health Guidance for Sound Baths & One-to-Ones

At Found in Sound we want everyone to feel safe, supported and cared for. Sound healing, sound massage and reiki are gentle complementary practices that encourage rest, balance and self-care — but they are not a substitute for medical treatment or suitable for everyone. If you live with any of the conditions listed below, or if you’re unsure about suitability, please consult your GP, consultant or other healthcare professional before booking. By booking you confirm you have read and understood these guidelines.

Pregnancy

As a precaution we ask anyone in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, in the final weeks of pregnancy, and those prone to high-risk pregnancy, to seek guidance from their midwife or GP before attending. We will adapt sessions if you are expecting, and avoid placing instruments directly on the abdomen during pregnancy. Some essential oils are not recommended during pregnancy, so please let us know in advance and we will avoid diffuser use near you. For a more in-depth exploration of this topic, please read this blog post: https://www.foundinsound.co.uk/post/how-to-enjoy-sound-healing-and-reiki-safely-during-pregnancy

Pacemakers & Implants

If you have a pacemaker, defibrillator, cochlear implant or other implanted electronic device, please consult your healthcare professional before attending. We do not place instruments directly over implant sites and will adapt sessions to keep you safe.

Epilepsy & Seizures

Sound can very rarely trigger seizures in people with musicogenic or reflex epilepsy. If you have a history of seizures, please speak with your neurologist or GP before attending, and do not join without medical clearance and a care/safety plan. We can support you with a GP consent form if needed.

Surgery, DVT & Wounds

Please wait until you are fully healed from recent surgery before attending. Instruments should never be placed on or across an open wound, recent surgical site, known blood clot (DVT) or area of acute inflammation. If you are recovering from surgery or injury, check with your healthcare professional first.

Mental Health & Trauma

Sound and energy work can bring up emotions. If you are experiencing acute trauma, psychosis, or another severe mental health condition, please check with your clinician before attending. If you have a history of trauma and would like to join, let us know in advance — we can agree a calm, trauma-informed plan (including a safe signal or exit plan) so you feel fully supported.

Hearing Aids & Tinnitus

Hearing aids can sometimes create feedback during group sessions — please remove them if comfortable. For other ear implants, it may be best to check with your audiologist first before attending. For tinnitus - Sound baths can be supportive for people with tinnitus, and some participants have found the gentle layers of sound help ease their symptoms. However, tinnitus experiences vary. If you have tinnitus, again, please check with your audiologist or GP before attending, and let us know so we can adjust the volume, distance, or choice of instruments to keep you comfortable.

Breathing Conditions, Allergies & Scents

Often we scent the room with essential oils and provide herbal teas and a homemade vegan brownie to support aftercare. However, if you live with severe allergies, asthma, lung conditions, or have a sensitivity to certain scents, please let us know ahead of the session so we can make adjustments / and or bring any medication with you.

Alcohol, Drugs & Medication

Please attend sober and not under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs. If you are taking prescribed medication that affects mood, balance, alertness or consciousness, check with your prescriber before booking.

Children & Young People

Under-16s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Please contact us first to discuss whether a session is suitable for younger participants.

After Your Session

You may feel deeply relaxed, emotional or a little tired afterwards — this is normal and part of the self-healing process and will pass. Eat nourishing foods, drink plenty of water, rest if you need to, and contact your GP if you feel unwell. For a deeper dive on the emotional effects of sound healing, you can read this blog 'Can Sound Healing Make You Cry': https://www.foundinsound.co.uk/post/can-sound-healing-make-you-cry

Important: These therapies are complementary and do not replace medical care. In line with the UK Reiki Federation and the IPHM code of ethics, we do not treat specific conditions, diagnose, or promise outcomes.
