Today I’d like to dive into a topic that's close to my heart and probably yours too - the emotional power of sound healing.
You know, it's funny how we often talk about the physical benefits of sound healing - less stress, physical tension, better sleep etc. But what about the emotional rollercoaster it can take us on?
That's right, yes sound healing can make us feel connected, calm, and clear but what about those moments when you're lying in a sound bath or a 1-2-1, and suddenly you're having a bit of an unexpected weep?
Well, you’re not alone. We’ve all been there and there’s no need to feel embarrassed, in fact it’s actually brilliant, and I’ll explain why. But first, why does this happen? Here are a few reasons why sound healing might make you cry:
Emotional Release: Imagine your body as a sponge that's been soaking up emotions for years. Sound healing is like giving that sponge a good squeeze. All those stored-up feelings come pouring out, sometimes as tears. And hey, that's okay because it’s actually a very positive thing and a sign that your body is healing and serving you well.
Stress Relief: As those sound vibrations wash over you, all that tension starts dissolving in every part of your being. And guess what? Sometimes those suppressed feelings decide it's their time to shine. It's like when you finally go on vacation and suddenly catch a cold - your body's way of saying, "Phew, we can relax now!"
Memory Lane & Spiritual Journey: Sometimes a particular sound might remind you of something from your past, or it might connect you to something bigger than yourself. It's like when you hear that song that takes you right back to a special moment, or when you feel so connected to the universe that you're overwhelmed with love. Cue the tears!
Your Body's Doing Its Thing: Ever heard of the vagus nerve? It's basically the captain of relaxation in your body. Sound vibrations give it a massage, and suddenly emotions surface as your body relaxes. Why? Because it needs to release them in order to be able to relax and be well.
Tuning Into The Sound Of You: Sound healing is like a meditation session but with the volume turned slightly up. It helps you tune into your inner world, and the sound of you, but sometimes what you find there can be pretty moving.
Now, let's talk about crying. Historically crying has been viewed as a bad thing, and many of us have been taught to hide our emotions. But here’s the thing - crying is actually your body's way of hitting the reset button. It's like clearing out your emotional inbox - absolutely necessary, really good for you and a way to fend off serious & chronic illnesses. If we don't hit the reset button little and often, things build up inside and lead to blockages, which can cause havoc long-term.
So, next time you're in a sound bath and feel those tears coming, don't hold back! Let them flow. It's all part of the beautifully messy process of healing. Your body knows exactly what it's doing.
Whether you're having a quiet sob in a group session or a proper cry in a one-to-one, you're doing something remarkable for your health. You're not just healing; you're embracing your wonderfully human self in all its emotional glory.
Here's to sound healing, here's to tears, and here's to you - bravely showing up for yourself. Keep riding those sound waves, and let those emotions flow. Your mind, body, and spirit will thank you for it.
And don't forget to keep yourself topped up with water or a hot cuppa. Those tears need replacing! :)
Ah makes me feel relieved about my tears now as I felt I was being weak but this is reasuring
