Can Crystals Support Sound Healing?

Sound and crystals share a natural connection: both carry vibration and resonance, and both can shift how we feel. In Sound Healing and Reiki, crystals can amplify energy, bring balance, and support the body in returning to harmony.
The crystal most central to sound healing is quartz — the foundation of crystal singing bowls. But other stones like rose quartz, selenite, fluorite, obsidian, and amethyst also complement the practice, whether in instruments, therapy spaces or jewellery.
How Crystals Fit into Sound Healing

Quartz has unique vibrational properties — it’s piezoelectric, meaning it can hold and amplify energy. This is why quartz is used in everything from watches to radios, and why quartz crystal bowls are among the most widely used instruments in sound healing. Their tones are pure, resonant, and carry deeply through the body.
Research shows that sound vibrations can influence cellular processes and support relaxation (Kumar et al., 2014; Goldsby et al., 2017).
In my own practice, most of my bowls are quartz-based. I also work with alchemy bowls — bowls made by fusing quartz with other crystals or gemstones. My collection includes a sapphire-quartz bowl (often linked with intuition and the “third eye”) and an obsidian-quartz bowl (associated with grounding and protection).
While these symbolic associations aren’t evidence-backed, many people describe clarity, balance, or release when listening to them.
Alchemy bowls are made by producers such as Crystal Tones, who craft bowls infused with stones like amethyst, rose quartz, or citrine. They’re extraordinary instruments, though often very expensive. One day, I hope to add a Lemurian Quartz bowl — which feels especially meaningful to me as I’m attuned to the Dragons of Lemuria Reiki system.
Crystals in Reiki and Therapy Spaces

Crystals can also support sound healing more subtly — for example, by being placed on or around a person during a session, or in a therapy room to create a calm, uplifting atmosphere. They can also be woven into Reiki practice to support balance and relaxation.
Some practitioners, including myself, like to draw Reiki symbols on crystals to further focus intention. For instance, the Sei Hei Ki symbol (often associated with emotional healing and balance) might be drawn on rose quartz, aligning the stone’s traditional qualities with the Reiki energy.
Crystals may also be used in Reiki with wands to sense shifts in energy fields.
Books such as Crystal Reiki (Krista Mitchell), Crystal Reiki Healing (Philip Permutt), and Crystal Clear: Meditation with Crystals (Dinah Kibby) explore how crystals can be combined with energy work and meditation to deepen practice.

Wearable Crystals
One way I extend the experience is through crystal singing bowl necklaces made from quartz and fluorite fragments of bowls once used in sound healing. You can explore the collection in my online shop and watch more about how these are made here.

Each piece has been cleansed & infused with Reiki and designed as a wearable vibrational tool — carrying the resonance of sound with you every day.
But you can also infuse your own intention into the jewellery, and you can read more about the power of intention in our FAQ section.
In Summary
Crystals and sound healing share common languages: frequency & vibration. Quartz bowls are at the heart of modern sound baths, while alchemy bowls fuse quartz with stones like sapphire or obsidian for unique qualities.
Crystals can also be used in Reiki sessions or placed in therapy spaces to support calm and focus, and jewellery made from bowls offers a way to carry their resonance day to day.
While scientific research on crystals themselves is limited, they’ve been valued in healing traditions for centuries, and many people report feeling calmer, clearer, and more connected when working with them. Whether through a sound bath, a Reiki session, or wearable jewellery, crystals may help you retune and reset, and we at Found in Sound love them.
